As my artistic journey continues I am experimenting with new colours, forms and materials and my first experience with NYOS will be its collaboration with the well known Rural Arts with the exhibition based upon 'Idea of North' a most exciting prospect. The ‘Idea of North’ is an exhibition by artists who are also members of North Yorkshire Open Studios. Together these artists explore the ways that being in the North influences the making of art. The exhibition takes its title from a book by Peter Davidson who shows the North to be a goal rather than a destination, a place of revelation that is always somewhere absolute and austere – and eternally just out of reach. With this exhibition North Yorkshire is re-imagined as an idea that shapes the creativity of its residents. All work is for sale.

we at Craven Arts House will be hosting the SPRING EXHIBITION, a chance to see a piece of work by all this years cohort as a tantalising taster of what to see in their individual studios later in June.  When visiting the SPRING in March do pop into our other studios at Craven Arts House as well … we’ll be ready and waiting to chat about what we do.

I’ll be attending the HOLDEN CLOUGH nurseries Artisan Makers Fair with smaller original paintings and designer cushions to brighten up small spaces in holiday lets, offices, or your own homes, along with greetings card to take us into the blossoming of our summer season. It’s the SUMMER NYOS OPEN STUDIOS where a marvelous tour awaits, with over 200 studios to choose to visit so gather together friends and family and start the planning early. This annual event enables artists and makers to open their studios, meet, promote, and sell their work direct to the public over the first two weekends in June. As North Yorkshire is such a large county, North Yorkshire Open Studios is split into 3 areas – Dales, Central, and Moors & Coast. We include Artists and makers working across a range of different disciplines including painting, printmaking, ceramics, woodwork, glass, jewellery, photography, sculpture, textiles, mixed media, and more! To see the brochure listing all artists and makers.
